• Thornless hardy variety

• Produces good crop of large juicy berries

• Harvests July / August

• Good in dry soils

Description

Navaho is a mid-season vigorous variety that gives way to a heavy crop of large, blue-black berries that are firm, sweet and juicy. It produces clusters of pinkish white flowers that are almost rose-like. The berries are delicious eaten fresh, but they are also ideal for use in jams, jellies and pies. This self-fruitful shrub has an upright, self supporting habit, thus making it an ideal option for smaller areas of the garden. It could even be planted in a container with canes and placed in a courtyard or patio.

Planting Position
For best results, plant in a sunny sheltered sContainer, ideally in rich, slightly acidic soil that is moist but well-drained. Blackberries do not like waterlogged soils. Tolerant of some shade, you will get a better yield if planted in full sun. Due to the vigorous yield, regular pruning is recommended. The shoots of the newly-planted canes need to be tied in. On the first winter, cut back the sideshoots on the main canes. Spring is the best time to plant blackberries.

Attributes

This heavy cropper is thornless, so it’s an easy variety for picking, but don’t forget to cover the plant to prevent the birds eating your berries!

    Fantastic crop!

We bought four thornless blackberries from Bowhayes three years ago and could not be more pleased with the results we've had. The crop was understandbly modest in year 1, plentiful in year 2, and fantastic this year! And they carried on producing large luscious berries for months on end. Thanks again Howard and Fiona!
