Species Description Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) Clusters of fragrant white flowers followed by glossy red berries that birds love. Wild Privet (Ligustrum vulgare) Semi-evergreen shrub with white flowers and dark berries providing year-round interest. Hazel (Corylus avellana) Early yellow catkins for bees and edible hazelnuts in autumn. Guelder Rose (Viburnum opulus) White flowers, red berries, and fiery autumn foliage. Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris) Blossom for pollinators and fruits for birds and small mammals. Dog Rose (Rosa canina) Pink flowers for insects and bright red hips for birds. Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) White flowers for nectar and dark berries for birds and small mammals. Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) Early blossom followed by sloes for wildlife and traditional sloe gin. Spindle (Euonymus europaeus) Bright pink flowers and fruits providing nectar and habitat for insects.
