Our native farm hedging mix meets the criteria for the BN7 Hedgerow Gapping-Up option under the UK Government’s Countryside Stewardship scheme. Designed specifically for restoring existing hedgerows, this pack is suitable for Mid Tier, Higher Tier and Capital Grants. Available to order in larger quantities only. Plants are 40–60cm. Recommended planting density is 6 plants per metre.

 

Description 

Gapping up existing hedgerows plays a vital role in maintaining continuous wildlife corridors, improving stock-proof boundaries, and preserving the traditional British landscape. Our native hedging mix is ideal for filling gaps within established hedges, helping to strengthen structure while encouraging biodiversity. All species included are native and safe for livestock. The RSPB highlights that British hedgerows can support up to 80% of our woodland bird species.

 

What's included?

60% hawthorn, with the remainder made up of at least 4 other native species selected from: Blackthorn, Hazel, Field Maple, Dogwood, Crab Apple, Guelder Rose, Dog Rose, and Wayfaring Tree.

Based on a planting density of 6 plants per metre, typically planted in a double staggered row within existing gaps. As a guide:


100m Hedge: 600 Plants
250m Hedge: 1500 Plants

500m Hedge: 3000 Plants

750m Hedge: 4500 Plants

1000m Hedge: 6000 Plants

2500m Hedge: 15000 Plants

Plant Protection
