Description
Hamamelis x intermedia hybrids are crosses between Japanese witch hazel (H. japonica) and Chinese witch hazel (H. mollis). This winter flowering deciduous shrub is a fantastic choice to bring colour to your garden when it's most needed. Between December and March, 'Diane' produces clusters of spidery and fragrant, brick-red flowers on bare twigs, making any winter garden look magnificent. During autumn its large green leaves turn dramatic shades of yellow, orange and red before falling. The Royal Horticultural Society has given this stunning witch hazel its Award of Garden Merit .
Planting Position
This plant is a full sun to part shade lover, and is best grown in well-drained soils that are preferably organically rich, and acidic soils. It does have some tolerance for clay soils. It will flower best in full sun. This small tree has a maximum height and spread at 4m x 4m.
