Overview

Prunus domestica 'Haganta'

Large bluish plums with an excellent flavour. Can be stored once picked.

Flowering Group: 3

Pick: September (can be kept until November)

Use: Eating & Cooking

Description

Haganta is one of the best recent varieties in the plum world! Developed in Germany in 2005 and very popular throughout the country. The fruits are large and blue with an excellent flavour. The flesh is yellow and very sweet to taste, with the stones that seperate very easily from the flesh, freestone. They are especially good for use in cakes, puddings and preserves. It's an extremely heavy cropper with added bonus of being disease resistant and keep well into November.

Planting Position

Because plums have quite high moisture requirements, they are best planted in loamy or clay soils that must be well-drained, as plums do not do well in waterlogged ground. Plums are hardy trees, however they are one of the first to flower, so it's important to plant them out of frost pockets and windy areas, so not to damage the flowers. Preferably a sheltered and sunny sContainer will give you the best results.
