Description
'Louise' is a reasonably new variety of Photonia that was discovered on a nursery in Scotland and was named after the owner's daughter. This is a hardy colourful variegated evergreen shrub that provides all year colour. It is suitable for growing in a patio container or in the ground, it may also be used for hedging. As it is so low maintenance, it only requires pruning to suit your garden.
A welcome addition to any garden, whether its grown in large Container or on a balcony or a large shrub border. Most commonly in garden hedges to provide evergreen coverage and provide a splash of colour year-round and especially in winter. The 'Louise' cultivar has upright, bushy branching habit and is ideally suited for hedges.
Planting Position
Suitable for most locations and soil types, best grown in moist, but well drained soil, in full sun or part shade but it is recommended to grow it in full sun as it will encourage more vibrant colours. Frost tolerant and happy in exposed positions.
Attributes
The foliage is coloured all year round producing variegated pink and red markings which mature to a green with a cream trimming. Photinia Lousie typically produces two or three flushes of new pink shoots per year. In Spring, clusters of small white flowers appear which compliment the varicoloured foliage, they also have a pleasant fragrance throughout the garden.
