Description
Commonly known as the Corkscrew Hazel, this award-winning deciduous and hardy shrub has twisted and contorted stems that provide an unusual focal point for any garden. For most of the year there is fresh green foliage that turns a golden yellow in autumn before falling off. In late winter and early spring, weeping yellow catkins adorn the beautiful branches that form the main attraction of this plant.
Planting Position
Corylus avellana 'Contorta' is hardy and easy to grow. It is best planted in full sun or partial shade. It can be grown in either North-facing, South-facing, East-facing or West-facing and can tolerate both exposed and sheltered positions. The preference for soil type is chalk, clay, sand or loam with a pH that is neutral or alkaline..

This slow growing unusual tree, with its crooked and twisted stems makes a superb choice for any winter borders or oriental planting schemes or even as a specimen tree for a patio. Attracting wildlife to your garden from moths, butterflies, many types of insects, birds and squirels. They are also popular for winter flower arranging.
