Shelter / Windbreak

Often an exposed garden or area of land will benefit from a windbreak or shelterbelt. This may be for a variety of reasons such as; to reduce wind speed, preventing damage to existing plants, fences or other features; create shelter for livestock or pollinating insects; reduce damage from salt laden winds; minimise soil erosion or damage to existing crops. Windbreaks are considered to be a line of defence such as a fence, hedge or single or double line of trees. Shelterbelts are made up of tall trees and shrubs planted in double, or often triple rows and are usually only used on larger areas of land and farmland.
