Overview

This french variety of gage produces large, heavy crops of classic gage fruits that are ideal for eating, cooking and bottling. The fruits aren't too sweet, have a pleasant flavour and are fairly juicy. A self-fertile variety making them a good choice where space may limit the number of fruit trees you can plant.

Self fertile : Yes

Flowering Group: 4

Pick: Early August

Use: Eating / Cooking

Description

This dual-purpose gage was introduced from France in 1860's and gets its name from the town of Oullins near Lyon. It is an attractive golden colour with small, faint red dots along with dense, yellow transparent flesh. The fruit is more plum-like like due to its size. They are reasonably juicy and sweet when eaten straight from the tree, but less juicy than other gages and plums so they're ideal for storage in the freezer. For culinary use, pick early when they are still firm.

As a self-fertile variety of gage it doesn't need a pollination partner.
